“Need” by Erin Sprague

There is a burning longing in me
An insatiable hunger
A soul-deep desire
A flame flickering in my heart

I long for the stretch
Of my muscles lengthening
The arch of my foot
The press of my toes on the floor

I yearn for the sweetness
Of each deep, soft plié
The arch of my back
In the slow port de bras

I ache for the emotion collecting
In my entire body
The presence around me
As I dance across the floor

I crave the challenge
Of an adagio
Of a pirouette awaiting me
A grand jetè waiting to burst

I’m waiting, waiting
For the sweet release
The moment of connection
When I find my place.
